JHB’s Final Fine Arts Nights

Grade 2 Fine Arts Night: The JHB second grade Fine Arts Night was held a few weeks ago as a coordinated event between music teacher, Susan Paradis, and art teacher, Heidi Roberts. Prior to the music concert, families were invited to view the students’ art projects which were exhibited in the gymnasium. At 6:30, second graders took to the stage and performed a Healthy Habits concert. Songs such as Apples and Bananas, Veggies Are Yummy, Couch Potato, and Brush Your Teeth were performed using different rhythm instruments, choreography, and props.

Artwork at the Second Grade Fine Arts Night: Second grade students created a variety of artworks including bird, cat, and dinosaur sculptures. In art class with art teacher Heidi Roberts, the second graders of Mrs. Bibeau’s class created large architectural paintings on cardboard. These paintings included bright, bold colors and a variety of textures inspired by architect, Friedensreich Hundertwasser. A display was set up to be interactive where students could wander into the city. Children were excited to wander through and some posed like giants!

First Grade Fine Arts Night: On another night, JHB first grade students performed their “Plants, Trees, and Things That Grow” music concert under the direction of music teacher, Susan Paradis. Along with the music concert, first grade student art projects were displayed by art teacher, Heidi Roberts. Families were invited to view the art projects prior to and following the music performance. This popular event was well attended and well received!

On Fine Arts Night, half of the gymnasium was covered with a brightly colored exhibition of the first graders’ artwork. The first graders have been working hard this year in the art room creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork. A variety of pieces were exhibited that were inspired by children’s literature. There’s a Nightmare in my Closet by Mercer Mayer and How I Met My Monster by Amanda Noll were some stories that inspired 2D monsters. One of the three-dimensional pieces, owls created out of cardboard tubes, was inspired by Knight Owl by Christopher Denise. #WeAreRSU18 #JHBdragons
