Tamra Wight talks writing, books and wildlife at JHB!
by Kathryn Bailey, Librarian
All students in grades 3-5 had the pleasure of hearing Maine author and wildlife photographer Tamra Wight present on May 3rd at the James H. Bean Elementary school.
Students, teachers, and librarians were captivated by Tamra’s obvious passion for wildlife, her down-to-earth personality, and commitment to her craft. Tamra’s constant positive reinforcement of student feedback and the manner in which she responded to questions was gracious and genuine.
Students were treated to some phenomenal photos and videos, taken by Tamra herself, of loons, eagles, foxes, and bears. Tamra took students through her writing process, but mostly emphasized and modeled the need for quality details in any good writing. She is a joy and her excellent presentations thoroughly engage the students.
The JHB school library, the happy recipient of the Onion Foundation Grant, with the help of some matching funds from the school, was able to host two authors this year.
