New England Livestock Exposition

A few weeks ago, first and third graders from James H. Bean spent the day at the New England Livestock Exposition at the Windsor Fairgrounds. The sun shone brightly as students watched the K9 demonstrations by the Maine State Police, the harness racing practice on the track, and the blacksmith demonstration. Students visited the aquaculture touch tanks and held starfish, lobsters, sea urchins, and sea cucumbers. Touching kelp and seaweed was a new experience for some. Food samples were tasted and some of the favorites were maple cotton candy, blueberries, cheese, yogurt, and pizza crust made with Maine grains. Draft horses, oxen, chickens, piglets, goats, sheep, rabbits, and dairy cows were on display. Students learned about making butter, bee keeping, Operation Game Thief, and CMP Safety City. In addition, students were able to visit the historical buildings on the fairgrounds such as the museum, schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, and sawmill. #WeAreRSU18 #JHBdragons
