I Have a Dream
James H. Bean fifth graders in Mrs. Kanhai-Singh’s and Ms. Greenlaw’s classrooms enjoyed the read aloud, My Brother, Martin by Martin Luther King Jr.’s sister, Christine King Farris. The book was a collection of memorable times Christine shared with Martin. Learners then read an article where they discovered information on Martin Luther King Jr.’s life as well as dove into analyzing his famous I Have a Dream speech. Discussion was rich and deep on what dreams the fifth grade students currently have. Students were given quiet time as they reflected on their dreams and they had the opportunity to record their dreams on their “I Have a Dream” display (pictured).
